Once the gravity and severity of Climate Change is realized, a “warlike” global effort could solve it — we all face a common enemy: extinction. Some steps will be required: convincing, irrefutable scientific data that urgent action is required, and the realization that defense and other non-essential budgets will need to be redirected towards solutions, achievable by a truce agreement to stop weapon development and warfare in general.
The following article was written in 2025, so some information is a bit dated. Each category could extend out to links on the various subjects. Solutions is a continually evolving field — a moving target.
Climate Crisis Solution Ideas
- A Brain Trust (like FDR created to get out of the Great Depression) to create a solution pathway
- Becoming as close to Zero Carbon Emissions ASAP — an all-electric nation (see Scientific America, November 2009, “A Plan for a Sustainable Future”: by 2030)
- Negative population growth — e.g. WOW1: Women of the World, one child max and free contraception. What is a truly sustainable human population?
- End deforestation, repair damaged climate systems, regenerative agriculture, reforesting, food forests to endure rising temperatures, planting as much vegetation as possible. Harvest hemp not trees for paper production.
- A new economics not based on growth but sustainability and happiness (e.g. Doughnut Economics, Kate Raworth)
- Oil and Gas Companies shift from extraction to production of clean energy and sell electricity back to utility companies. Similarly the wealthy could buy into renewable energy sources.
- Localization: reducing transportation costs and self-sufficiency means less energy expenditure; incentives for net-zeroing homes
- Recycling, repurposing, and building long-lasting durable structures. Stop senseless demolition of viable structures. Plastic industry: clean up the oceans.
- Reduce driving through better ride-sharing apps
- Water purity, conservation, and availability
- Research: better batteries, carbon and methane sequestration, and cold fusion — which would be a p
